Where to live if you commute to London Marylebone train station

The historic Marylebone train station sits just North of Baker Street and Marylebone High Street, in central London. The station is operated by Chiltern Railways and it's main line takes you through the likes of High Wycombe, Bicester, Banbury, Warwick, Birmingham and all the way to Kidderminster. There are also services to Aylesbury, Oxford and Stratford-upon-Avon, meaning this is a station which offers some great locations to commute from.

Commutes within 30 mins of London Marylebone

Although most 30 minute routes (green dots in the map below) would only take you to the border of the M25, there are a few great options to escape to the country.

Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire

23 mins - £275 monthly pass

Gerrards Cross is a highly desirable town to move to from London given it's proximity to the City (23 minute train to Marylebone) and it's nice mix of countryside feel with a cosmopolitan town centre.

Schools are excellent and if you travel with work, Heathrow is less than 30 minutes away and driving into the City is do-able too.

Note that Gerrards Cross is expensive and is one of the wealthiest postcodes in the UK!

High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire

24 mins - £371 monthly pass

High Wycombe offers a more urban living option, as the second largest town in Buckinghamshire.

A popular choice for young professionals and new families due to it's good connection to London and more varied property market. High Wycombe offers a good range of schools and a recently regenerated town centre, while still being surrounded by countryside for weekend trips.

Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire

30 mins - £332 monthly pass

Just outside of the M25, the historic Beaconsfield offers plenty for families to do. There are regular markets such as the Farmer's Market (4th Saturday each month) and the Beaconsfield Market (every Tuesday) and the high street offers all of the shops you'll likely need, from Waitrose to Sweaty Betty.

There are plenty of local attractions to fill your weekends, from the famous Bekonscot Model Village to several nearby National Trust properties such as Cliveden.

Given the close location to London, it's strong selection of schools available and everything else it has to offer, it'll be no surprise that Beaconsfield is not a cheap option, with semi-detached houses averaging over £700k!

Commutes around an hour of London Marleybone

Stretching to a 60-minute journey (orange dots above) can take you surprisingly far.

Princes Risborough, Buckinghamshire

40 mins, £383 monthly pass

Heading further out on the Chiltern line will take you to Princes Risborough, a market town which is still a relatively quick commute into London but feeling much more like the countryside and more affordable than the likes of Gerrards Cross.

Princes Risborough has good school options but it's stand out feature is the beautiful countryside surrounding the town.

Banbury, Oxfordshire

60 mins, £602 monthly pass

Just over an hour on the train will take you to the historic Oxfordshire town of Banbury. Banbury sits in a nice spot, with London an hour away, Oxford half an hour away on the train and the Cotswolds a short drive away.

You will notice the property prices starting to becomg more pallatable at this point, but Banbury is a lovely choice to move to with it's stone cottages and Victorian terraces.

Long Crendon, Buckinghamshire

45 mins from Haddenham & Thame Parkway, £427 monthly pass

Looking for a quieter village life? Long Crendon offers plenty of greenery, peace and quiet, and thatched cottages.

The small but lively town centre has a range of pubs, restaurants and shops. For all of your retail needs, Bicester Village is only 20 minutes away.

Leamington Spa, Warwickshire

Just a couple of miles east of Warwick, Leamington Spa is a popular spot due to it's stunning parks and famour Regency town houses.

Semi-detached houses average £323k and the town offers a range of state and independent schools.
